Voters to show photographic identification
As I’m sure you will be aware, the Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photographic identification when voting at a polling station at some elections. This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections taking place on Thursday 4 May 2023 across parts of the Country and including Newark and Sherwood elections.
In my role as Returning Officer, I’m trying to get the message out in a variety of ways to mitigate the risk of people being unable to vote. This includes household visits, use of social media and leaflet drops to specific groups within our community.
Attached to this email, you can access a poster about Voter Identification designed by the Electoral Commission and I’d be really grateful if you would print and display this on any notice boards and around community spaces.
For more information about Voter Identification, please go to the Newark and Sherwood District Council web page here: https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/VoterID/
Alternatively, if you have any specific questions, please contact: voting@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk
Many thanks for your help,
John Robinson
Returning Officer
