Knights ride back into Sherwood for the Robin Hood Festival
They’re back! The brilliant Knights of Nottingham are getting ready to saddle up and do battle at The Robin Hood Festival at RSPB Sherwood Forest at Edwinstowe this weekend.
The Knights made their Festival debut in 2022, telling their fabulously entertaining version of the Robin Hood legend with their twice-daily show.
They will be performing this year at Sherwood from Friday to Sunday (4th-6th August) at 11am and 3pm each day.
Jess Dumoulin, RSPB Visitor Experience Manager, at Sherwood Forest and Budby South Forest, said: “The Knights of Nottingham were a real hit with the crowds at last year’s Festival and we’re thrilled that they are back again this summer.
“The Festival is all about celebrating the Legend of Robin Hood and the culture of the Middle Ages.
“The Knights tell their version of Robin’s story in spectacular fashion, with incredible horse-riding and jousting skills, not to mention the colour, pomp and pageantry that we associate with the era of the outlaws and the start of Robin’s fame.”
Sam Conway, of the Knights of Nottingham, said: “For a Nottingham-based Medieval jousting display team to be involved in this celebration of English history and our county’s cultural heritage is a wonderful opportunity.
“We had a great response from the audiences last year and we’re excited to bring the legend of Robin Hood to life at Sherwood Forest once again.“
Also appearing this weekend are many of the Festival regulars, including the hilarious comedy duo the Medieval Maniax, entertainers Bill Brookman and Simple Tom, magician Nathanial Bagshot and fire-eater What A Palaver.
There will be storytelling from Past Imagined and Sir Robert of Wentbridge, and Medieval music from More the Merrier and Sloe Gin.
There will also be re-enactment groups The Lord Thomas Stanley Retinue and The Ferrers Household at Sherwood, who will provide the authentic look and feel of life in the Middle Ages.
Creative Kingdom will be running Have A Go Archery sessions at the Major Oak, and there will be a host of activity and trader stalls too.
The Festival got underway last weekend (27th-30th July) with three days of outdoor cinema at Sherwood, with six blockbuster and family movies presented by Adventure Cinema, watched by more than 3,000 people.
On the Sunday, dozens of families took part in the Hunt the Outlaw quest, featuring the cast of the fabulous Sherwood Outlaws.

Events at the Festival are free, but there is a Special Events Day parking charge of £10 per vehicle per day for all visitors using the car parks this weekend (4th-6th August).
The Festival continues through the summer, taking place each weekend until Monday 28th August. Still to come are the Wildlife Weekend (12th and 13th August), the Tournament of Champions (19th and 20th August), Nottinghamshire Day Celebration (26th August) and the Grand Finale (27th and 28th August).
