Events at Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve in April 2025
There’s lots happening at the Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve over the next few weeks.
Easter Events
Easter holiday activities are well underway, with two family trails – an easy one for younger children and a logic challenge for adults and older children.
Archery and Axe-Throwing with Fireside Events will continue at the Major Oak green until 16th April, with The Sherwood Outlaws offering more archery over the Easter weekend.
The Outlaws are also running Knight Schools for 6-11 year olds as St George’s Day approaches, from 19th-21st April.
There’s a Knight’s Trail on Sunday 19th too, with children invited to find the shields of knights out in the forest.
Early bird outdoor cinema tickets
Early bird tickets are still available for this summer’s Films in the Forest outdoor cinema weekend until 27th April.
Birdwatching Walks
There are a number of expert-led birdwatching walks happening through April and May.
On Saturday 12th April, we have our Spring Bird Walk setting out at 9.30am, identifying the range of resident and migratory species that can be seen and heard in Sherwood in the Springtime.
Then on Sunday 27th April and Saturday 3rd May we have our Redstart Rambles, on the trail of this colourful summer visitor to Sherwood.
And on Sunday 4th May we celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day with a 5.30am Dawn Chorus walk, led by the Birklands Ringing Group, who will also conduct a Dusk Chorus Walk at 7.30pm on Saturday 10th May.
Gathering of the North
And the Gathering of the North is all set for Sherwood on May Bank Holiday Weekend (24th-26th May) with a jousting contest as part of a Tournament of Champions.
Fireside Events have put together a fantastic event with re-enactment groups here to demonstrate their amazing equestrian skills and combat displays.
Admission is free, although there is a £10 special event parking fee.
You can find out more about all our events and book tickets on our website.
