Council provides grants to improve home heating
Newark and Sherwood District Council currently has grant funding available to help local residents on low incomes to repair or replace inadequate heating systems.
If you or someone you know is on a low income and suffering with a long-term health condition made worse by living in a cold home, the Council may be able to help, thanks to the Warm Homes on Prescription scheme.
Last year, Newark and Sherwood District Council supported more than 30 low-income homeowners to make their property warmer, potentially avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions due to cold-related illnesses.
An Ollerton resident who recently benefitted from the scheme said: ‘Citizens Advice suggested that we contact the Council as our boiler had broken and we were without any heating or hot water. We are very proud and don’t like to ask for help but we had no money to replace the boiler and were very cold.’ ‘The Council managed everything for us – we had to go through an assessment process but it was very straightforward and we qualified for funding. The boiler was replaced and we are now lovely and warm again’.
